Today’s a Holiday
12th December 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Free
A group of residents seize control of the roof of their apartment block in 1950s Madrid.
It’s a national holiday and they are at leisure to enjoy the freedom of the open air, normally denied them by their caretaker.
Over the course of the day, and in the freedom of the open air, they reveal their hopes and dreams of breaking free from the poverty which defines their lives….
This intensely human drama by the foremost playwright of late 20th century Spain echoes the work of O’Casey and Miller, and explores themes of hope and individual responsibility.
Our performance combines vintage footage, music, commentary and live extracts over Zoom, and will be your chance to experience the first English language performance of the play by Antonio Buero Vallejo, as translated and adapted for the Dublin Shakespeare Society by Paul Maher.
