Staging McGahern 2016
7th June 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 11th June 2016 @ 7:30 pm
€15We are proud to present, under licence with ‘The Agency (London) Ltd., a production which dramatises two of McGahern’s short stories.
The experience of loss and yearning forms the core of both of these plays staged in the Theatre@36 in the Teachers Club, Dublin.
‘A Slip Up’ concerns a couple who have given up their farm in rural Ireland in middle-age to emigrate to London.
The effects of this sundering from the land and community are revealed through the ordinary routines of married life.
‘All Sorts of Impossible Things’ centres on a friendship between an unmarried, middle-aged school teacher and a young, married, chronically-ill agricultural instructor.
The disparity in age, health, and marital status are the means through which McGahern explores issues of love, loss, fear of death, and the nature of friendship itself.
